Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy | Shreyas Iyer to lead Mumbai in absence of Ajinkya Rahane

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has named Shreyas Iyer captain of the Mumbai T20 team for the Super League stage of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Ajinkya Rahane, who led Mumbai in the group stage is not available for the next round and there are reports that he is carrying a niggle. 

Iyer will lead the strong Mumbai team in the next round matches of the Indian domestic T20 tournament which will begin from tomorrow. Mumbai and Railways qualified from Group C in which all the matches were played in Indore which is also the venue of the Super League stage. There are reports from yesterday that Rahane will miss the Super League stage due to an injury. However, a source in the MCA has ruled out reports of Rahane’s injury and told PTI, “he is not available for the knock-out stage.”

The Mumbai T20 squad will have the experience of players like Prithvi Shaw, Siddesh Lad, Aditya Tare and Surya Kumar Yadav in their batting line up. On the other hand, pacers Dhawal Kulkarni and Shardul Thakur will lead the bowling attack which comprises of pacers Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias, and Akash Parkar along with the two spinners Dhurmil Matkar and Shams Mulani.

The winners of Vijay Hazare Trophy winners will start their Super League campaign against Karnataka from Friday at the Holkar Stadium, Indore.
