After scoring a modest 224, India needed early wickets to put pressure on Afghanistan. The target was not a massive one and Afghanistan had the batting to gun down such a modest total, which only increased the pressure on India. Brought in as a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami was spilling fire with the new ball and looked in a good rhythm. On the fourth delivery of the third over, Shami caught Hazratullah Zazai leg before and the decision was reviewed by India.
It looked quite close and the replays suggested that the ball had just pitched outside the line of leg stump but almost 40% of it was in the line. The decision of the on-field umpire sustained but probably the fact that India lost the review and did not retain it despite some part of the ball being in lie left many bewildered and Kohli animated.
This topic has been in discussion for a while now since the review is not lost if the ball is clipping the stumps even minutely then why not the same law applied when the pitching is concerned. India lost a crucial review and won’t have any option if the decision goes against them in the rest of the game.
