Pakistan bowlers did well to keep England in check despite Jos Buttler and Joe Root joining forces to form a solid partnership in the middle overs. Once Root was dismissed, Pakistan saw an opening and Shadab Khan gave the perfect launchpad to carry on the attack when he drew an edge from Moeen Ali’s bat to create two wicket-taking opportunities on one ball.

On the second ball of the 41st over, Shadab bowled a flighted googly on the leg stump which left Ali clueless. The failure to read the googly resulted in Ali working against the turn and in the process, he lost his balance while stumbling out of his crease. 

The edge went behind and in an ideal situation, Sarfraz would’ve been able to get hold of that catch. However, the deflection was big enough to deceive him entirely as the ball hit his hands before he could get his gloves in position. There was still a stumping chance on that delivery considering the fact that Ali was outside of the crease, but Sarfraz couldn't gather the ball despite multiple attempts.
