India vs New Zealand | Mitchell Santner blames failure in execution of plans for series debacle

India have been clinical and ruthless throughout the series so far and with a seven-wicket win in the third game, they secured the series with two games to spare. While Indian openers have been terrific as usual, for a change, the middle-order has also been splendid, throwing New Zealand’s plans off completely. The middle-order bowling has also been pretty good by the Indians thanks to Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya in the third game, and Jadhav and Vijay Shankar in the first two games. Santner stated that it was the main reasons why they failed to take off.

"India has shown just how good they are in all conditions. We have not been good enough but there are signs there that we are getting better," Santner was quoted as saying by PTI.

"I think the plans have been pretty solid - maybe the execution's been off at times. I guess the key for us is to keep taking wickets through the middle, keep being aggressive.”

While Indian top-three have been the best in the world by a distance, they have been helped by Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni brilliantly. Dinesh Karthik also batted with purpose - something that made India a more balanced outfit in the world cricket. Santner added that the Indian batsmen hate to get out and that makes their bowlers' job difficult.

 "We have been outplayed in all three games. It's been a little bit disappointing to lose three games in a row but we are playing a very good side. India has shown just how good they are in all conditions. We have not been good enough but there are signs there that we are getting better. They obviously hate getting out - just got to find ways to try and get wickets,” the left-arm spinner said.
