Vijay Hazare Trophy | Shahbaz Nadeem record performance leads Jharkhand to victory

Jharkhand slow left-armer Shahbaz Nadeem was the show stopper on the second day of Vijay Hazare Trophy limited-overs overs tournament as he ended up with record-breaking figures of 8/10 in his quota of overs. His superb performance helped Jharkhand secure a victory against Rajasthan.

Baroda, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra won their respective matches in Group A of elite division while in Group B, Chhattisgarh, Andhra, and Delhi registered victories. Bengal, Gujarat and Jharkhand emerged victorious from the third elite group while Bihar along with Manipur and Meghalaya won their plate group matches.

Aditya Waghmode and Kedar Devdhar’s batting ensured a 37-run win by VJD method for Baroda against Vidarbha in a rain-marred encounter in Bengaluru while the other rain-affected game of the group saw Himachal Pradesh getting better of the Railways by 33 runs by VJD method. Skipper Prashant Chopra and Nikhil Gangta scored fifties as Himachal got four points from the game.

In the other game of the group, Ankit Bawne starred for Maharashtra against home team Karnataka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Maharashtra batted first and scored 245/8 with Ankit Bawne scoring 104 and captain Rahul Tripathi amassing 70 runs. Karnataka were 107/6 when rain stopped the play and the home side were defeated by 57 runs through VJD method.

Chhattisgarh defeated Madhya Pradesh by 122 runs in Group B game while in another match Andhra defeated Odisha by six wickets. Andhra chased down the target of 185 in 47.1 overs with Ashwin Hebbar scoring 92. Delhi defeated Saurashtra in the other game by 5 wickets despite some good batting show by Sheldon Jackson (62) and Cheteshwar Pujara (53). Himmat Singh (74) and Gautam Gambhir (62) helped Delhi chase down 238 in 46 overs.

Bengal defeated Jammu and Kashmir by six wickets while Gujarat won against Tamil Nadu by four wickets in Group C. The most interesting incident of the day took place in the game between Rajasthan and Jharkhand where Shahbaz Nadeem ripped apart the opponent’s batting lineup to restrict Rajasthan to 73 in 28.3 overs. Nadeem’s figures of 8/10 is the best ever in List A cricket all across the globe. Jharkhand pocketed four points after chasing down the total quite comfortably.
