VIDEO | Dinesh Karthik pulls off Dhoni-esque DRS review

Ahead of the Nidihas Trophy, many fans questioned whether Dinesh Karthik would be able to help the spinners from behind the wicket and more importantly help with DRS. Today, seconds after realizing that the umpire wasn’t going to give a leg before, Karthik, in true Dhoni fashion, asked for a review.

Bangladesh had already gotten off to a decent start with 55 runs on the board by the end of the eighth over. With Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim going after Vijay Shankar, taking 11 runs in four balls, the bowler didn’t lose hope and managed to get India the breakthrough on the fifth ball of the 9th over.

Shankar bowled a short of a length ball outside off seeing Rahim come down the wicket and make room for himself. With the ball going away from him, Rahim tried to swing his bat and the ball made its way into the hand of Karthik behind the stumps. The Indian wicketkeeper immediately went up with an appeal but the umpire refused to respond. However, as soon as Karthik realized that the umpire wasn’t going to side with him, he, without consulting with his captain, immediately signalled for a review reminiscent of a Dhoni review.

Seeing his wicket keeper’s confidence, Rohit decided to challenge the call and the third umpire needed just one look at Ultra edge to see that the batsman had nicked the ball. Rahim was almost out of the ground before the umpire could even signal that the decision had been reversed.

While Dhoni’s exploits have made a running joke about the DRS being renamed Dhoni review system, it appears that Karthik might be hoping to change that to Dinesh review system.
