After a thumping 2-1 win in the T20I series, India would be targetting the same in the 50-over format that is scheduled to start from Thursday. However, if Virat Kohli is eyeing to regain the World No. 1 spot for his side, then just winning wouldn't make the cut. India would need to win all the three games against the English side for that to happen.
The ODI series will begin with the first match at Nottingham and in case England end up winning the series by the same margin, they would earn a ten point lead in the rankings as stated by ICC. Until August 12, seven out of the 10 teams playing for ICC World Cup 2019, would be in consideration for the changes in the ICC ODI ranking.
The individual players will also be investing their skills to improve their rankings in the ICC log tables which will be announced by August 13 after 18 matches. Currently, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is leading the rankings with 909 points, while Rohit Sharma has been seating in the fourth spot. However, top-ranked Jasprit Bumrah missing the ODI series due to his finger injury would give other players the opportunity to fill the gap.
