Gautam Gambhir, who didn’t take part in the Group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy due to an ankle injury, is all set to make a comeback to the Delhi team for the knockouts. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will also bolster Mumbai’s team after not being picked for the T20I series against South Africa.

Gambhir was not a part of the Delhi team for the group stages of the tournament and now after passing the fitness test, he will raise the confidence of an already in-form Delhi top order. While Unmukt Chand, who suffered a freak blow on the jaw, has already scored 319 runs in six innings at an average of 53.16, Hiten Dalal has hit 283 runs at 47.16. Manjot Kalra, the centurion from India's Under-19 World Cup title win at the beginning of this month, was put on the stand-by by the selection committee.

Meanwhile, Baroda all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has been dropped from the team which is set to play in the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Saurashtra and will be replaced by Akshay Brahmbhatt. The former India all-rounder scored only 79 runs from the six matches he played in the tournament with the highest score being 28.

"Yusuf played six matches in the tournament but didn't perform well. So, it was decided to drop him and give chance to another player. His poor performance is the only reason behind leaving him out," said a BCA official, reported the Times of India.

Earlier, the 35-year-old player was not included in the probable team for the league matches, but his name was included during the selection of the final 15 provided he passed the fitness test.
