VIDEO | Dinesh Karthik pulls off stunning run out that would make MS Dhoni proud

Over the last few months, Dinesh Karthik has proved that he is more than ready to step into MS Dhoni’s huge shoes. After his heroics in the Nidahas Trophy and the lightning quick stumping against DD in the IPL, he dismissed Ajinkya Rahane with some quick thinking which Dhoni would have applauded.

After Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav had restricted the hosts to just nine runs in the first three overs, Ajinkya Rahane had taken the responsibility to up the run rate. By the end of the powerplay, not only had Rajasthan managed to put up 48 runs on the scoreboard but their skipper was looking in sublime touch with 35 off just 17 balls. In a desperate attempt to get a breakthrough, Karthik threw the ball to Nitish Rana who had claimed the wickets of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli in their first match.

While the part time spinner conceded four runs in his first four deliveries, he eventually got the breakthrough, somewhat. It might have been Rana bowling but the man with the golden arm was standing behind the stumps for KKR. On the fifth ball of the seventh over, Rana saw the RR skipper come out of his crease and delivered the ball short. Rahane tried to play the ball down the leg side but could not get a proper connection on it and the ball ricocheted off his foot and went behind.

While the RR skipper looked lost outside his crease, his counterpart swung into action and quickly gathered the ball and with an exceptionally pinpoint back-handed flick dislodged the bails with Rahane still turning to get back into his crease.

This is now added to a long list of moves by the Indian wicketkeeper who has shown off his skills with the bat and behind the stumps to show that he is more than capable of replacing a certain No. 7 in the Indian side.
