Italian City Bolzano has banned cricket in parks after an unfortunate incident saw a two-year-old boy, sitting on a balcony, injured by a cricket ball. The step is a big blow for the Afghanistan and Pakistan migrants as the mayor has restricted the popular sport to tennis courts and baseball fields

While sports are one of the most popular means of entertainment, they have their own dangers as well. From cricket to football to combat sports, there have been fatalities on the field of play with Phil Hughes being one of the recent victims. Recently, in the Italian city Bolzano a two-year-old boy was struck by a ball when he was on the balcony of his own home. He was 100 meters away from a cricket game that was overlooking the park. Fortunately, the kid did not suffer any serious injuries

However, the kid's parents wrote an email to the city's mayor Renzo Caramaschi advocating a ban on playing such sports in the open after the incident with their son. The mayor obliged and banned cricket in the city's park restricting the sport to just tennis courts and baseball fields.

The Afghanistan and Pakistan migrants communities who live in the city follow the sport which does not enjoy a sizable audience in the European country.

"We will soon make an assessment with representatives of the Pakistani community," Caramaschi said, reported BBC.

This is not the first time that cricket has been banned in the Italy. According to the Italy's Corriere della Sera daily, the northern Italian city Brescia banned the sport in public spaces in 2009.
