IPL 2017| Dravid and Ganguly were the creators of Jos Buttler's first fanboy moment

Jos Buttler, the English batsman, and wicketkeeper who hails from Somerset witnessed one of the greatest cricketing moments in the history when he visited Taunton in Somerset to watch a match between India and Sri Lanka. India was playing Sri Lanka in a group game of the World Cup of 1999 that took place in England and Wales.

The batting duo of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid thrashed the Sri Lankan bowlers all around the ground as knit a record 318-run partnership that remains the 3rd highest partnership for any wicket till date. Buttler was mesmerised by the splendid batting on display by the two Indian legends, especially Ganguly.

Buttler shared his experience of the match via a video posted on Twitter. 

He stated,"I went to watch India against Sri Lanka at Taunton in a World Cup game, and Ganguly got 183 I think and Dravid got about 150. Taunton was Somerset – my home. Watching these guys play against Muralitharan and smashing him out of the ground into the river – that was probably my earliest fanboy moments of cricket, watching those guys" 

Buttler also revealed how Aravinda de Silva had left him in tears during the match.

“I used to try and get everyone’s autographs; You can run around the boundary and get autographs. I remember Aravinda de Silva, I was trying to get his autograph and then something must have happened. He’d take my pen, he had signed, and then he must have got moved or something, so he ran off. And he ran off with my pen. And I remember running back to my mum crying that Aravinda de Silva had stolen my pen,” he added.

Ganguly and Dravid's record partnership helped India post a total of 370 on the board and emerge victorious in the match. However, India was eliminated in the super six stage of the tournament and it was Australia who eventually won 1999 World Cup title under the leadership of Steve Waugh.
