ICC Rankings: Jadeja leads the list, Herath replaces Ashwin in second spot

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja maintained the No.1 Test bowler spot in the latest ICC Test rankings which was released on Wednesday. While Ravichandran Ashwin slipped from the second to the third position, Sri Lanka’s experienced bowler Rangana Herath overtook him to second.

Sri Lankan spinner Herath claimed 11 wickets in the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe which helped him to replace Ashwin and reach the rank of No. 2 bowler in Test cricket. With 898 ratings, Indian player Ravindra Jadeja maintained his top position. James Anderson climbed one place and tied with Josh Hazelwood on fourth as both have 826 points.

In the batting rankings, Australian skipper Steve Smith retained his top position. England’s Joe Root claimed the second position with 886 points. While South African player Hashim Amla, who made the fifties in each innings in Trent Bridge, returned to the top ten on the batting front. He moved six spots up to seventh. In the top ten positions, Indian players Cheteswar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul maintained their fourth, fifth and tenth spot respectively. 

On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan remained on top in the all-rounder’s list. Jadeja and Ashwin are in second and third position, respectively. England’s Moeen Ali and South Africa’s Vernon Philander completed the top five spots.
