WATCH | KL Rahul's stomach helps Ashwin pick a wicket off his worst delivery

You don't always have to be in control of the situation in order to take a catch in cricket and KL Rahul proved this point when he managed to hold onto a catch to dismiss Upul Tharanga after the ball landed in his midriff. This also handed R Ashwin a wicket off one of his worst deliveries.

One of the biggest ironies in cricket is that a good delivery does not always guarantee a good result for a bowler. However, on the other hand, a bad delivery can also bring you a good result as Ravichandran Ashwin found out today.

The off-spinner had easily bowled his worst delivery of the second over as he sent one onto Upul Tharanga’s pads. And the Sri Lankan opener must have thought that he had given the ball the treatment it deserves as he whipped one onto the leg side. While Tharanga had managed to get all of it, the ball landed straight into the midriff of KL Rahul who was standing at short leg. The Karnataka batsman somehow managed to hold onto the ball, despite never being in control of it.

Moreover, the likes of Ashwin and Virat Kohli themselves were surprised by the fact that they had managed to get a wicket of such an ordinary delivery. Not only was Tharanga unfortunate to be dismissed in such a manner, his wicket also meant that Sri Lanka got off to the worst possible start as they lost their first without a run on the board.
