The Pune IPL franchise, one of the two new entrants into the league, has roped in former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming as the coach of the team for the upcoming IPL season which begins on 9th April.

“I warmly welcome Stephen Fleming as the Chief Coach. He has been remarkably successful as a player in the international arena and I firmly believe that his technical knowhow, perseverance and organisation skills will work wonders for our team. I have tremendous faith in his leadership ability and believe that it would have a positive impact on our team members,” Sanjiv Goenka said in Kolkata today.

The Pune IPL franchise had secured the signings of stars players like India’s limited overs team captain M S Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Faf du Plessis and Steve Smith in the IPL draft held on December 15 in Mumbai.

With Stephen Fleming announced as the coach of the team, Pune will be looking forward to the captain–coach combo of M S Dhoni and Fleming, which guided CSK to two IPL titles and three runners-up positions in a seven-year span.

Chennai Super Kings, along with Rajasthan Royals, were suspended for two years by the Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee headed by the former chief justice of India R M Lodha in July, 2015.

The IPL auction for the remaining players is expected to happen on February 6 in Bangalore.
