Indian limited-overs team captain MS Dhoni and pacer Jasprit Bumrah are likely to join the rest of the team in the USA for their two-match T20 series against West Indies. The selectors are expected to name a small squad for the series with 6 of the current 17-man Test squad likely to return home.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) working committee on Tuesday approved the two-match T20 series against the World T20 champions at Florida. With most of the Indian squad already in the Caribbean, the selectors are likely to name a small squad for the series with MS Dhoni leading the side. According to a report in , out of the 17-member Test squad that is currently touring the West Indies, six will return home after the Test series, while Dhoni and pacer Jasprit Bumrah will join the T20 squad in Windies. M Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha, all-rounder Stuart Binny, pacers Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav are the ones who are likely to return to India.

“As it will be a short tour the Indian team will go with 14 members squad. Dhoni and Bumrah might join the team straight in USA,” a source in the selection committee informed the Indian Express.

However, one tournament that will not feature top stars, at least initially, will be the Duleep Trophy. The tournament had caught the attention of everyone after the Board decided to conduct it with pink balls as day-night Tests. With the Indian team scheduled to play in Florida on August 27, 28 and the A team touring Australia, at least the initial matches in the tournament are unlikely to feature any top Indian stars.
